Healthier Sloppy Joes in the Slow-Cooker

I really like a good sloppy joe on occasion but wanted to make something a little bit healthier. With a few vegetable add-ins this was a really yummy recipe with added nutritional benefits. Plus, it’s a slow-cooker recipe which I love because you can set-up and leave it be.

  • 2 pds ground beef or turkey
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 packet sloppy joe spice mix
  • 1 small white onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. dry mustard
  1. Brown meat in large skillet, stirring to break up. Drain fat.
  2. Meanwhile, fill slow-cooker with all remaining ingredients, stir. Transfer drained meat to cooker, stir.
  3. Cook on high 2-3 hours or low 4-6 hours.
